ODBDSLC217 - Holiday (Week 2)

It's now week 2 of the Our Daily Bread Designs challenge, ODBDSLC217, to make a Holiday card (Thanksgiving or Christmas). You can see the first card that I made for this challenge here. Here is another card for inspriation:

Our Daily Bread Designs, Noel Ornament, Doily Dies, Matting Circles Dies, Circle Ornament Dies, Beautiful Borders Dies, ODBD Christmas Paper Collection 2013, Designed by Elizabeth Whisson

For some reason this card really did not want to photograph well (I tried for a long time!) - so the colours are slightly "not true"; however, if you scroll down a bit the next photo portrays the "true" colours a lot better.

I've gone for a monotone, shabby-chic looking Christmas card this week. I've stamped Our Daily Bread Designs' Noel Ornament onto white cardstock in Distress Embossing Ink and Forest Moss and then embossed in clear embossing powder. You can see a bit of variation in colour on the words - this is because when I stamped it in the embossing ink - the middle of the stamp probably got a lot more of the clear ink, so then when I added the forest moss - the clear ink seems to have reacted with the forest moss, creating lighter and darker sections. I really like it and think it adds to the shabby chic feel :-)

I've then diecut it using ODBD Circle Ornament Dies and matted with ODBD Matting Circles. The edges of both panels are also slightly distressed.

My card base is Bazzill textured card and layered a piece of white card that has been distressed then inked with DI Forest Moss. Next I've layered a piece of DP from ODBD Christmas Paper Collection 2013. I've stamped the Noel Ornament on the DP piece three times in Perfect Medium before adding some Perfect Pearls - Green Patina (close-up below). I've then lightly spritzed with water to set the perfect pearls. The DP is also distressed then inked with DI Forest Moss. Then I've sprinkled some Green Frantage EP around the edges and heated.

I've then added a layer of Green Tara white lace, then ODBD Beautiful Borders diecut (also cut from the same DP). I've diecut ODBD Doily Die from white card and inked with DI Forest Moss and added some Green Frantage EP too.

Christmas is a "most wonderful time of the year" (as it says on the Noel Ornament stamp) as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus, our Saviour! Joy to the World the Lord is Come, as the hymn goes! One of the books that my husband and I read to our children at night tells a short story on the birth of Jesus. There is a picture of baby Jesus in the manger and the words ask - who is this person?, he has no royal throne or crown; yet, He is our heavenly King, Jesus, the Lord of everything!(paraphrased). Jesus did not come to earth in a showy fashion, instead He was born in a manager. Society today seems to associate kings with crowns and thrones, yet Jesus chose to walk among the poor, heal the sick and spend time with people that were cast out of society. Some of us may not only need physical help, but we ALL need spritual help as we have ALL sinned against God, and need Jesus to save us. He came to earth as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. We only need to believe that He died on the cross for our sins, was raised to life and now sits at the right hand of His Father in heaven.

I have come across the saying YOLO (You Only Live Once) quite a lot lately... but it's not true. We all have two lives. One here on earth, and the other in eternity. It is our choice where we spend that eternity - in hell or in heaven with Jesus!

Thanks for looking!
