ODBDSLC208 - Birthday with ODBD

The challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs this week, ODBDSLC208, is a Birthday challenge! We want to see your birthday cards! I thought I'd try something different this week and make a "card in a box".

If you google "card in a box" you should get a number of different templates, but I based mine on Tina Weller's. This "card in a box" is awesome because it folds flat for postage!

I have used Bazzill textured cardstock as my base and have attached ODBD Rustic Beauty Paper on the panels of the box.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from ODBD Be Joyful and I have stamped the frame, from ODBD Antique Labels Designs, around the outside and diecut with ODBD Antique Labels and Borders dies.

It's a little hard to see but I have diecut the ODBD Fence die from ODBD Blooming Garden Paper Collection and used this as the base for my flowers to "stand up" on.

The ladybugs and bee are stamped from the ODBD Zinnia set and diecut with ODBD Zinnia and Leaves dies. I've then coloured them with a few Copic markers.

I did add some Stickles Stardust to the bee's wings and some glossy accents to the middle of the Asters and on the ladybugs' dots - but I did this after I took the photos sorry!

ODBD June release

OK - so I'm a little behind posting these cards (as June is half over!) but still wanted to share these two cards that I made with Our Daily Bread Design's June release!

This first card I made for my cousin's baptism - I was sad to miss the actual event but was (and still am!) rejoicing with her and her family from afar :-)

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, handmade card, Ephesians 2:8, bible verse, ODBD Asters and Leaves Dies, Scripture Collection 2, ODBD Elegant Oval Dies, Cherry Blossom, ODBD Blushing Rose Collection

I have stamped the verse (from Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection 2) onto X-Press It blending card then diecut using ODBD Custom Elegant Oval Dies. There is a hint of flowers stamped on the top and bottom of this panel - these are from the Cherry Blossom (ODBD June release) set. The gorgeous flower dies are brand new from ODBD too - Asters and Leaves. And the beautiful paper is ODBD Blushing Rose Collection (also from the June release). I've then added a few rhinestones to finish the card. Most panels and diecuts have been inked with Distress Ink Walnut Stain. The base of my card is Bazzill textured cardstock.

This second card was the first card I made after I got back from my trip - I couldn't wait to delve back into cardmaking! It's similar to the card above but it has a few differences :-)

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Cherry Blossom, ODBD Antique Labels and Border Dies, ODBD Asters and Leaves Dies, ODBD Decorative Corner Dies, ODBD Blushing Rose Collection, handmade card, Psalm 23:6, bible verse

For this card I have stamped one of the verses from the Cherry Blossom set (ODBD June release) onto X-Press It blending card and diecut it with ODBD Antique Labels and Border Dies. The beautiful diecut corner is from ODBD Decorative Corner Dies. The flowers are diecut using ODBD Asters and Leaves dies (this time I inked the leaves before removing from the dies) and I've added some lace (Green Tara - little goodie I found at the expo!) and some rhinestones and pearls. The gorgeous paper, once again, is from ODBD Blushing Rose Collection. Again, most panels and diecuts are inked with Distress Ink Walnut Stain. The base of my card is Bazzill Textured cardstock.

And just before I go - just want to remind you about Our Daily Bread Designs'

Another one layer card

The challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBDSLC207) this week is to make a one layer card. You can see my original post with two of my cards here. I made a third card for this challenge which you can see below :-)

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Bee Happy, Honeycomb mini, kraft, handmade card

To make my card I first stamped Our Daily Bread Designs Honeycomb mini over the front of my kraft cardstock card using white gesso and waited for it to dry (the one where I was going to stamp the words I "smudged" a bit with some dry paper towel so the words would be easier to read). I then stamped the bee hive and bee from the Our Daily Bread Designs Bee Happy stamp set in Memento Rich cocoa over the top of the gesso. The bee I embossed with clear EP. These have both been coloured with Prismacolor pencils.
The sentiment is from the same set (ODBD Bee Happy) but stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black and has clear EP added. I've then done some doodling around the edges using a 0.3 mm Staedtler triplus fineliner.

ODBSCL207 - One layer

The challenge this week at Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBDSLC207) is to use one layer! I have to say this is not my forte although I ended up making a few and think I could get used to these one layer cards!! Here are two of my cards:

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBD, Psalm 9:1, Cherry Blossom, handmade card, one layer, CAS

For this card I have splattered some Copics (B00, B02 and B05) and Distress Marker (seedless preserves) across the card using a Color Spritzer (I am yet to add an airbrush system to my collection). I then stamped the flowers from Our Daily Bread Designs Cherry Blossom set and coloured with Prismacolor pencils. Cherry Blossom is from the June release and they have a whole range of wonderful flowers - check them out here. I added some liquid pearls (Lavender Lace) on the flowers. The verse is from the same set - Cherry Blossom. I then doodled a small edge around the card using black Copic multiliners 0.03 and 0.05 mm.

Here is another one layer card I made:
Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Poppy, Psalm 100:5, handmade card, CAS, one layer, prismacolor pencils

For this card I have stamped Our Daily Bread Designs Poppy single onto the front of a white card and stamped Psalm 100:5 from ODBD Scripture Collection 11 in the top right. I've coloured the Poppy with my Prismacolor pencils and added some white gel pen for highlights. I've also done some doodling around the edge with 1.0, 0.5 and 0.1 mm black Copic multiliners.

I am entering this card in the Word Art Wednesday challenge #136 - Anything Goes.

My trip

I've had such a busy last few weeks! I recently took a trip to Brisbane (across the other side of Australia) to complete my standard and intermediate Copic certifications (yay!) and to visit the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo! I was soooo excited to go away for 8 whole nights AND soooo grateful to my husband for staying home and looking after our two little girls - isn't he the best??!!!

I had an awesome time at the Standard Copic certification on the Friday and was very excited to meet Kathy Jones in person (she taught the class) - I found her blog a few years back and she inspired me to invest in Copic markers - and I've been following her blog every since!

The Saturday was just as great with Sascha from X-Press Graph-X leading us in our intermediate Copic Certification.

Then on Sunday I got to visit the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo - and that was so much fun! So many lovely goodies to buy, demonstrations to see and classes to take :-)

I ended up doing one class - 'Love This' Mixed Media Layout with Beck Beattie and it was awesome! I don't do a lot of scrapbooking and I had never used gelatos, whipped spackle or Tinby Metallic Melts before so I learnt a lot of new techniques and had great fun (some of the products can be bought here at Scrappy Chat Designs). I got all the essentials completed in class and finished the layout once I returned home. Here is what I made:

Elizabeth Whisson, scrapbook layout, Beck Beattie, mixed media, gelatos, whipped spackle, Tinby metallic melts, Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo class
This is one of my little girls and I have blanked out some of the words I wrote to "protect" my little girl's privacy :-)
The backing card is KaiserCard - Coconut and the DP used are from Authentique - Seasons.

I popped some of the elements up on foam tape and others are raised using Helmar Scrap Dots.

You can see the whipped spackle (an aerated gesso and acts similar to texture paste (but dries quicker) on the left and the metallic melts in the middle and right of the photo. The colours (I used blue, yellow and grey on my layout) are the gelatos scribbled on the page and water added with stipple brushes.
My Mum (who was with me in Brisbane) and I then flew up to far north Queensland to visit my sister and her family for a few days before flying back home. Was really good to see them again (it's been a while).

I had so much fun - but now it's back to reality :-)

Thanks for looking!

ODBDSLC206 - Pink, ivory and tan

The challenge, ODBDSLC206, at Our Daily Bread Designs is a colour challenge - to use pink, ivory and tan on your creation. I couldn't really find any ivory amongst my cardstock so I've improvised a bit :-) Here is my card:

I stamped the image (from Our Daily Bread Designs Faith) onto white cardstock and then covered it with double sided adhesive (you can buy it in large sheets). I've then diecut it out using ODBD Vintage Labels Dies. You then remove the top layer of the adhesive and add a generous amount of glitter! Burnish it really well into the adhesive (rub it, rub it again, and rub it some more) and shake off any excess. I've then used Copic markers to "colour in" the image - however, you need to be careful not to brush the nib over the glitter but rather just touch the nib to the glitter and the ink just infuses into the glitter/cardstock. (And you still may need to remove a few stray bits of glitter from the Copic nib before replacing the lid.) I'm calling this my "ivory" piece :-)

Faith is from the same stamp set as the image (ODBD Faith) and is diecut with the smallest die from ODBD Vintage Flourish Pattern Dies (I love this little "tag" :-) ). Before stamping and diecutting the word Faith - I swiped some Distress Stain Spun Sugar over the kraft cardstock to give it a hint of pink.

The border is diecut using ODBD Beautiful Borders Dies and I've also used ODBD Vintage Flourish Pattern Dies to emboss the pattern into my pink paper. The small bit of DP you can see is from the ODBD Heart and Soul Paper Collection.

ODBDSLC205 - White on white

Our Daily Bread Designs has a White on White challenge this week (ODBDSLC205). I made two cards for this challenge. Here they are:

Elizabeth Whisson, handmade card, white on white, Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBD, hummingbird, Bee balm, Zinnia, ODBD Daisy Chain Background Dies, ODBD Vintage Labels Dies, ODBD Hummingbird Die
Elizabeth Whisson, handmade card, white on white, Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBD, hummingbird, Bee balm, Zinnia, ODBD Daisy Chain Background Dies, ODBD Vintage Labels Dies, ODBD Hummingbird Die

As you can see they are practically identical except one has used clear embossing powder (EP) and the other has used white EP. (They also have different sized pearls.)

The sentiment is from the Our Daily Bread Designs Zinnia set and the flower is ODBD Bee Balm. I have then diecut them with ODBD Vintage Labels Dies. The gorgeous hummingbird is also from Our Daily Bread Designs and is both a stamp and die. (You could also buy the humming bird stamp and die with the Bee Balm stamp as a bundle!) For my background I have used ODBD Daisy Chain Background Die and added some pearls to the middle of some of the flowers.
