ODBDSLC191 - Secret Admirer

The latest challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBDSLC191) is a Secret Admirer challenge. Make a card that CASE's someone or a card that you admire!

If you're like me (before I was enlightened) and don't know exactly how or what it means to CASE a card - it means to Copy and Share Everything (or I've also seen it written as Copy and Selectively Edit). So, as Chris Olsen explained to me, you can take the layout, style or CASE the whole card changing a couple of elements and make it your own. Your card should not look exactly the same as the one you're CASE'ing.

This is my card:
Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Watering Can, ODBD Watering Can Die, All Occasion Sentiments, ODBD Beautiful Borders die, Heart and Soul Collection, thinking of you, flowers, handmade card, copics, Copic markers, copic

I have used Our Daily Bread Designs Watering Can and All Occasion Sentiments stamps. I've also used the Watering Can die, one of the Beautiful Borders dies and the gorgeous Heart and Soul Collection (also from ODBD) to CASE this card by Kathy Jones. Kathy's website was one of the first ones I ever came across in the cardmaking world - I am in awe of all of her cards (so it was hard just picking one to CASE)! Kathy was also the person who originally inspired me to start using Copic markers - and I'm so glad I did!

Card Group

Had an awesome time yesterday making some cards with friends and family. We started the day off by learning a bit about stamps and inks and then jumped in to making our own cards.

The first card we made was this one. I did two versions showing how the cards can look quite different just by changing the colours (and orientation):
Elizabeth Whisson, Hero Arts, Flowers and Vines, Annabelle Stamps, All things grow, Martha Stewart, butterfly punch, heat embossing, distress ink
Distress Ink colours used are Scattered Straw, Weathered Wood and Old Paper.
Stamps: AnnaBelle Stamps All Things Grow, Hero Arts Flowers and Vines set
Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts Butterfly

Elizabeth Whisson, Hero Arts, Flowers and Vines, Annabelle Stamps, All things grow, Martha Stewart, butterfly punch, heat embossing, distress ink
Distress Ink colours used on this card are Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade and Shaded Lilac.
Stamps: AnnaBelle Stamps All Things Grow and Hero Arts Flowers and Vines set
Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts Butterfly

The card was based (CASE'd) from this card by Hero Arts.

Both of the above cards have had AnnaBelle Stamps "All Things Grow" stamped with clear ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Next we added some distress ink to the background and then stamped Hero Arts "Flowers and Vines" over the top. Inked the edge of the card, added some twine and stuck it down to our card front. Lastly we punched some Martha Stewart "Butterfly"'s and added them to our card along with pearls, rhinestones, Stickles and/or Liquid Pearls.

And here is what the rest of the group came up with. I loved seeing all the different colour combinations people came up with and how they put their own creativeness into their cards! (I didn't have my usual photography equipment with me so you'll have to excuse the photos - they don't do the cards justice!)

I didn't realise until just now that I missed someone! Sorry - yours was absolutely gorgeous too and I'm sorry I didn't get a photo!

Some people then had to leave but the rest of us continued on with another card. Here are the two I made beforehand as examples:
Elizabeth Whisson, Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings, Hero Arts Everything Flowers, washi tape, stickles, distress markers
I have used Distress Markers Chipped Sapphire, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Scattered Straw, Wild Honey and Stormy Sky.
Stamp: Hero Arts Everything Flowers
Dies: Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings

Elizabeth Whisson, Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings, Hero Arts Everything Flowers, washi tape, stickles, distress markers, Annabelle Stamps sprinkles
Cannot remember the exact Distress Markers used on this one...think I wrote them down somewhere - will find out...
Stamp: Hero Arts Everything Flowers
Dies: Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings
These cards have had the Hero Arts "Everything Flowers" stamp coloured with Distress Markers, then spritzed with water and stamped onto white card. Some cards then have used a wet paint brush to drag out some of the colour. The left panel is covered with washi tape and a ribbon has been added over the join between the two panels. The butterfly is die cut from Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings. Once again Stickles, Liquid pearls and/or Annabelle Stamps sprinkles have been added to finish off the card.

And here is what we did yesterday:
Stamp: Hero Arts Everything Flowers
Dies: Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings

Elizabeth Whisson, Darkroom Door splatter, butterfly, Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings, washi tape, rainbow, stickles, liquid pearls
For this card I have used the Darkroom Door "splatter" background.
Distress Markers used are Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, Seedless Preserves and Shaded Lilac.
Dies: Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings

This card also has used the Darkroom Door "splatter" background.
Distress Markers used are Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, Seedless Preserves and Shaded Lilac.
Dies: Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Wonderful Wings

I had a great time ladies - thank you all for coming - I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

ODBDSLC190 - Valentine

The challenge (ODBDSLC190) this week at Our Daily Bread Designs is to make a love themed or valentine's day card using non traditional colours (i.e. no red or pink). I immediately thought of an olive and white card...but ended up adding a splash of orange/yellow too!

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Heart of Joy, Tiger Lily, Be Mine, ODBD Ornate Hearts, ODBD Beautiful Borders

Once again I have used some of the sets from the Our Daily Bread Designs February release including Heart of Joy, Be Mine, ODBD Ornate Hearts Dies and ODBD Beautiful Borders Dies. The Tiger Lily is an older stamp and still so gorgeous!

(Also two smaller ones on the inside (only one visible in the photo) stamped in "olive grove".) The tiger lily is stamped in Memento "Olive Grove" then coloured with Copic markers and a couple of Prismacolor pencils.

ODBDSLC189 L-O-V-E

This week the Our Daily Bread Design Shining the Light Challenge (#189) is a L-O-V-E recipe challenge. Use the letters in LOVE as a recipe to make your card i.e. L for layers, lemon etc., O for oval, octagon, orange etc., V for vellum, verse, violet etc. and E for embossing, envelope, eagle etc.
My card recipe is L - layers, O - orange, V - verse and E - embossing.
I used the Our Daily Bread Designs Chickadee and Clean heart stamps and the ODBD Fence Die, Ornate Hearts and Ornate Borders and Flower dies.

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Chickadee, Clean Heart, ODBD Fence die, ODBD Ornate Hearts dies, ODBD Ornate Borders and Flowers dies

The Clean Heart stamp set and ODBD Custom Ornate hearts dies are brand new - only just been released and they are gorgeous! Check out all the February released sets here.

Some more photos of my card:
Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Chickadee, Clean Heart, ODBD Fence die, ODBD Ornate Hearts dies, ODBD Ornate Borders and Flowers dies
This gorgeous little chickadee is coloured with Copic markers. I did the marbleised background technique I learnt from Color Me Creative Classroom. I then partially die cut the chickadee with one of the hearts from the ODBD Custom Ornate hearts dies and fussy cut around the tail and branches. Then backed the bird with some orange DP also cut with the same die set.

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Chickadee, Clean Heart, ODBD Fence die, ODBD Ornate Hearts dies, ODBD Ornate Borders and Flowers dies
These two hearts are also from the same set - ODBD Custom Ornate Hearts dies. The large heart has a smaller heart that embosses in the middle - I inked this with Distress Ink Spiced Marmalade while still in the die. The small heart has little "dots" that emboss on the top - I added some glossy accents over these. The fence die that you can see behind the hearts I also love!

Elizabeth Whisson, Our Daily Bread Designs, Chickadee, Clean Heart, ODBD Fence die, ODBD Ornate Hearts dies, ODBD Ornate Borders and Flowers dies
Here you can see that I added a small stamped heart from the ODBD Clean Heart set on the inside of my card. I also stamped this same heart quite a few times on the dark purple cardstock with clear embossing ink and then added some clear embossing powder.
The "border" at the bottom of the dark purple card was created by diecutting half of one of the dies from the Ornate borders and flower set numerous times. If I had the Antique Labels and Border dies (on my "to get" list) - would've been easier to use a border die. But I still really like how it turned out.

The verse I used on my card is Pslam 51:10 which says "Create in me a clean heart, O God , and renew a right spirit within me". I love this verse and it reminds me of a song by Keith Green - Create in Me a Clean Heart. I hum the tune every time I read this verse :-)
Pslam 51 was written by David and is a humble prayer for forgiveness and cleansing. We are to search our hearts (Psalm 51:1-3) - when we look at our heart what do we see? Are we aware of our sin? To soften our heart we need to openly confess our sins and ask for God's forgiveness (Pslam 51:4-7). We are then to seek after God with all our heart (Psalm 51:10) and we must continually listen to God's voice with an obedient heart (Psalm 51:11-12). When we acknowledge that we are sinners and give our lives to God, our whole person changes. We cast off our old sinful nature (Ephesians 4:22) and put on a new self (Ephesians 4:24) - a new way of life.

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me"
Pslam 51:10

I also love how this verse ties in with our challenge theme of LOVE. The whole Psalm points to God's love for us that He was willing to allow His Son to die on the cross for our sins - so that we can be forgiven and have "new hearts" - a new life in Christ.

These are the new sets from Our Daily Bread Designs that I used:
